Rabbinic Search Update April 1, 2021

UPDATE & CALL FOR SEARCH COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

We recently shared the news that Rabbi Ken Aronowitz will be leaving the Temple Emanu-El bimah on August 31, 2021, before Rosh Hashanah (September 7-8) and Yom Kippur (September 16). Changes in rabbinic leadership are a natural cycle in all congregations; Rabbi Ken has shared his spirit and wisdom with the Temple Emanu-El community for more than 20 years, and now we have the opportunity to learn and grow with new leadership. FAQs regarding Rabbi Ken’s departure can be found here (shaloha.com/rabbi-questions).

The Board of Trustees of Temple Emanu-El is forming a Rabbinic Search Committee. The Committee will be responsible for establishing search procedures and ultimately recommending our next rabbi to the Board of Trustees and the congregation. The Board has appointed Trustee Josh Levinson to chair the Committee.

We are seeking members of Temple Emanu-El to apply for service on the Search Committee.

Search Committee membership will be appointed by the Board of Trustees and will reflect the diversity of our congregation, including active and involved members from Temple Emanu-El’s many constituencies. Qualities the Board of Trustees are seeking in Search Committee members include diligence, commitment to inclusion, discretion, community-mindedness, professionalism, collaboration, relevant experience, and the flexibility to commit the time required to complete an effective search. The Search Committee will be composed entirely of members of the congregation. No members of Temple Emanu-El’s professional staff will serve on the Search Committee.

To apply for service on the Search Committee, please complete this form by Friday, April 9 (www.tinyurl.com/ShalohaSearch).

Priorities of the Search Committee will include:

  • Ensuring that the congregation has worship options for High Holidays 2021
  • Finding an interim rabbi while the search for a permanent rabbi is on-going
  • Conducting a thorough search for a permanent rabbi
  • Ensuring that worship, programs, and education including B'nai Mitzvah preparation continue during this interim period.

If you have questions or comments about our rabbinic search or the Search Committee, please utilize the form at shaloha.com/rabbi-questions or call the office at 808-595-7521.
